BlogWar Strategy

I love Heather’s enthusiasm for prosecuting this war. I wish every Alliance blogger were as eager to get their virtual knuckles bloody.

Yet, I must respectfully disagree with her proposed strategy of not linking and/or de-linking Axis members.

Let me explain.

The purpose of the BlogWar is to remove Instamonster from the pinnacle of the Ecosystem. The Bear has generously offered to count the stats of all Alliance blogs as one in our quest to depose the Dark Overlord.

Please note that the Axis of Naughty is not directly involved in this statistical battle. Linking to them (or not) is irrelevant. The fight is between us and Hobo-Whacker.

As Alliance members, our patriotic purpose is to bolster Alliance stats. Therefore, as long as you link and visit Alliance blogs more than you link & visit Blender-Boy, you are supporting the Alliance. Linking White Glenn isn’t bad in and of itself, it’s the RELATIVE linkage that’s important.

The purpose of the Axis is the opposite. They must link to White Glenn more than they link to Alliance blogs in order to keep him comparatively strong.

We have 3 advantages here. First, the Alliance has, collectively, more posts daily than Yappity-Law-Guy, so the Axis has to either link to us or lose relevance, since WE ARE what’s going on in the blogosphere.

Second, Instapundo is Insta-DULL. He’s got the entertainment value of a soggy dustbunny. We’ve got filthy lies, colorful quotes, and higher amusement potential than a hippy accidentally walking into an NRA convention thinking it was an Earth First! meeting.

Finally, since it really is better over here, we can seduce Axis members, one by one, to the side of light and reason, where the links flow like coffee at an AA meeting. I mean, it’s not like Insta-ignore-his-minions is ever going to actually LINK to them. They might as well come to linky-love central now, while the pings are still warm.

In short, linking Axis members doesn’t hurt, and may actually help, since linking tends to beget linking.

Speaking of which, I’ll be suggesting a plan soon for seducing one Axis member in particular. Stay tuned.

I didn't mean to make anybody's eyebrows go up. I still have links to all of the people on my blog to whom I linked before. They're just not active. If we decide this is a bad idea, I'll activate 'em in an eyeblink.

My strategy would be to do something similar to what Jen did on her post (Heather, whose blog I like but won't link to since she's called for a mass de-linking of Axis members)...blah blah blah. But I'd provide the URL, right next to it, tongue-in-cheek.

Forgive my zeal. It's been a rough weekend.

This is my post in the comments on Jen Lars' blog:

Oh, it's all in good fun.

I'll delink you when they start counting your stats. :) I will, of course, continue to list you and point out some of the beauties of your blog.

I will still visit everyday and leave friendly comments.

I think the big thing of it is that the Alliance is forever and always mentioning the Puppy Blender and then linking to him. If after a week it makes absolutely no difference and we fail to affect the data, we'll have a reversal of fortune and call it a move to mollify the other side when we "relink." We should definitely do the positive thing of looking for worthy content among our members and pointing it out to all who come to visit.

I certainly didn't mean to offend anybody. I'll go post this on the Alliance main site. I've been joking with my husband that he ought to join the Axis of Naughty just so that we could take the war home.

To which I responded that I know Heather meant it all in good fun.

But the question is...WHICH Axis member?

I'd remind the Alliance members that, per the BlogWar Geneva Convention, Linkage is Required.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks, Harvey! You said what I was thinking but couldn't articulate pre-coffee!

well, although relative linkage is what counts, so linking us more than him is good, if we don't link him, and still link us, as far as relative linkage, that'd be even more good.

IMO keep linking minions but don't link the puppy blender himself. what if a puppy sees your link and follows it?

Save the puppies!

Elliot,
True, not linking Blenderpundit *is* relatively better, but linking him *might* also be a valid strategy. If he sees the link and links back, he will have participated in his own destruction.

However, it's a long shot, so if anyone decides to take the risk, be sure to balance it with some gratuitous Alliance linkage.

On the other hand, we ought to think of the puppies, too. A tough call.

Hey, I got linked by Instapundit today. That's one more link than Frank J has given me.

I may have to examine the degree of loyalty being given me by our fearless leader. Even after a few reminders, I've yet to get a mention from him.

It is, after all, about the traffic, and Instapundit has delivered.
And the puppies? Well, I'll sleep just fine tonight.

My so called personal website is chock full o crappy pop ups and downloads, making me a lower form of internet life--I repent my greed and evil ways!!!!!! I am slime!!! I am Scum!!!! Penitently, Kevin Ford
